Valuable and vivid recollections by Mills of his service in Texas in 1850s, Civil War, service in Arizona, Crook's 1876 campaign, and his service in El Paso as Commissioner of the Boundary Commission between United States and Mexico. Mills recounts his campaigns in West from 1865 through the Custer campaign of 1876. He was a champion of Custer and accuses Terry of being unfamiliar with Indian warfare.
